Welcome to this year's Music at St. Michael's programme - a reminder as to why this beautiful building and its attendant College came into being in the first place. Opened in 1856, the College was built to the promote and revive Anglican Church music under the guidance of its founder, Sir Frederick Ouseley. That it succeeded, as many composers and organists of the last 150 years would testify, is without doubt. Unfortunately, it could not withstand the many social and economic pressures of the 1980s and in 1985 the College had to close.
St Michaels Parish has been able to continue a programme of conservation repairs to the Church with the support of The Council for the Care of Churches, English Heritage, The Garfield Weston and Wolfson Foundations, The Historic Churches Preservations Trust (National and Worcs and Dudley), The William and Jane Morris Fund and The Allchurches, Lesley David, Alan Evans Memorial, Idlewild and Manifold Trusts.
Thanks to strong support from The Ouseley Trust, the St. Michaels College Society and the local community, we have also been able to maintain some of Sir Frederick's original wishes in our Choral Services and Organ Recitals.
Please join us whenever you can: you will be most welcome.
St. Michaels Church is on the A4112 Leominster Road, 2 miles from Tenbury Wells.
